Why join APNIC?

Joining APNIC gives organisations access to all APNIC services, including requests for allocation and registration of Internet address resources, and attendance at specialised training courses. APNIC membership also gives organisations a voice in regional Internet operations through participation in APNIC's policy development processes and voting rights at APNIC member meetings.

Does becoming a member guarantee that I will get address space?

No. All requests for IP address space must be fully supported by documentation justifying the applicant's request. Because IP address space is a shared public resource, it is only allocated on the basis of demonstrated need and on the condition that it will be used in accordance with APNIC allocation and assignment policies.

Is membership a suitable option for my organisation?

APNIC membership is open to all organisations. However, membership of APNIC does not mean your organisation will automatically be eligible for address space. To promote better aggregation of routing information, APNIC has a minimum IPv4 allocation of a /21 ("slash 21" - 2,048 IP numbers). If your organisation is not likely to need this many addresses in the near future, we recommend that you obtain your IP addresses from your upstream Internet Service Provider. For information on IPv6 eligibility, please see the IPv6 FAQ.

Can individuals become APNIC members?

Yes. For more information, see Part IV of APNIC By-laws.

What are the APNIC membership categories?

APNIC has seven membership categories, generally determined by the amount of address space held, though member organisations can elect to join a higher category.

Please note: if an organisation joining APNIC chooses the Associate Member tier and receives address space within the following 12 months, the membership tier will automatically be upgraded to a higher tier determined by the total address space held at the time of membership renewal.

Full details of the categories, including the address holdings, fees, and voting rights are at Membership fees and payment information.

If my organisation becomes a member, will there be any other charges for IP addresses?

The first time a member requests IP address space, there is a one time only IP resource application fee of AU$3,169. While members continue to pay annual membership fees and when allocation policy requirements are met, APNIC allocates subsequent IP addresses and AS numbers free of any additional charges.

What are the fees used for?

As APNIC is a non-profit, membership-based organization, all revenues are committed to ongoing operation and development of the organization, including APNIC's contractual commitment to ICANN and support for certain other AP organizations activities (as approved by EC or membership consensus).

Can non-members receive resources from APNIC?

Yes, but because APNIC is primarily a membership organization, the fees are structured to encourage membership and most organizations seeking IP addresses are advised to join. See our non-member fees page for more information.

Can memberships or resources be transferred to another company?

APNIC memberships and Internet resources are not automatically transferable. If your organization plans to alter its corporate structure (such as by merger, acquisition, takeover, or sale), please review APNIC's transfer procedures first.
