Can I receive an IPv6 allocation from APNIC?

If your organisation provides connectivity to other organisations, you may be eligible. You will need to show that you have a realistic plan to make at least 200 customer assignments within two years. You will also need to show that you will provide connectivity and aggregated routing for those assignments. There is also provision for current holders of IPv4 address space to receive an initial allocation of IPv6 space appropriate to their customer requirements. The specific eligibility criteria for allocations are set out in section 5 of the IPv6 Address Allocation and Assignment Policy.

If you are an end user, you will need to request IPv6 addresses from a service provider.

Do I need to join APNIC to receive an IPv6 allocation?

You will need to either become an APNIC member or open an APNIC non-membership account.

I am a member of an NIR. How can I receive an IPv6 allocation?

As a member of an APNIC NIR, you may receive your allocation from the NIR itself, provided that your NIR is in a position to make the request from APNIC. Alternatively, you may join APNIC to receive an allocation directly from APNIC.

What is the cost for an IPv6 allocation from APNIC?

For normal members, the first address allocation request (either IPv4 or IPv6) is subject to a non-refundable IP resource application fee of $US2,500. However, if you have received IPv4 or IPv6 space from APNIC previously, all subsequent allocations are free, providing that your membership is current.

How do I apply for IPv6 allocations from APNIC?

If you are an APNIC member, please use the APNIC IPv6 Allocation Request Form.

If you are a member of a confederation, please discuss this with your confederation.

Can I upgrade my existing /35 allocation?

Yes, organisations that received a /35 allocation from APNIC or their NIR before 1 July 2002 are available to have their allocation increased to a /32, provided they still meet the general eligibility criteria in section 5 of the IPv6 Address Allocation and Assignment Policy. Can I apply now for IPv6 addresses which I will not use immediately?

You must be able to show that you will be able to make at least 200 assignments within two years of receiving your allocation.

Can I get an IPv6 assignment for my Internet Exchange Point?

You may be eligible to receive an IPv6 address assignment under APNIC's new IXP policy. See the IXP address assignment FAQ. These assignments are available for members and non-members.
