What are multihoming assignments for?
Multihoming assignments are for small networks that are multihoming, or plan to multihome.
Who is eligible?
Applicants must:
- be currently multihomed with provider-based addresses, or demonstrate a plan to multihome within one month; and
- agree to renumber out of previously assigned address space
Multihoming assignments are available to APNIC members and non-members, subject to APNIC's fee schedule.
Can a member of an NIR obtain a multihoming assignment?
NIR members can choose to obtain a multihoming assignment either by becoming an APNIC member or as a non-member. Changes to this procedure are currently being discussed with the NIRs.
I'm not multihomed yet, but will be soon. Can I still apply?
Yes, if your organisation plans to multihome within a month. You must provide full details of your plans to multihome, including the contact details of intended network peers. APNIC will contact these peers to verify your plans.
What size are the assignments?
You can apply for an assignment of any size provided you can demonstrate a need for that space. To do this you should demonstrate that you will use 25 percent of the assignment immediately and 50 percent within one year.
There is no absolute maximum or minimum assignment size, but please note that APNIC cannot guarantee the routability of any assignment it makes. Assignments less than /24 are not practical and will generally be filtered. If you are close to meeting the minimum allocation size (/21), you may find it more economical to become an APNIC member and apply for a portable allocation using the APNIC IPv4 ISP request form.
